Our school has a long tradition and strong reputation but we still face the same financial challenges as all other state schools. As an alumni you will recognise the important part that Bishop Vesey's Grammar School played in shaping your life.
It is important to continue our investment in the future. We need to raise funds to improve the physical fabric of our buildings and site and ensure the school offers modern facilities and the latest technological opportunities.
We are also committed to investing in the personal growth of every student through our successful Inspiration and Excellence Programme which provides a range of extra-curricular activities. Students can enhance their leadership skills; refine career aspirations; explore practical experiences across business, public and voluntary sectors; and develop their individual credentials which wrap around their academic endeavors.
We are forging mutually beneficial relationships and partnerships with our Alumni, local-to-national-global business people and a diverse range of communities in order that, together, we advance our ambitions for the school as a whole and students individually.
There are various ways in which you can engage with students, staff and the school and give your support whether financial or in-kind as outlined below:
Alumni
If you are a past student, register on the Alumni platform of this website. It’s a good way of keeping in touch with your peers, receiving current BVGS news, attending Old Veseyans’ Association events, viewing publications such as The Veseyan and getting involved generally.
Corporate Partnerships Programme
Join other businesses and become a Corporate Partner in our successful business networking programme alongside other alumni, parents and local businesses. Your company can establish a unique mutually beneficial relationship with the school while connecting with a wide range of other Corporate Partners and business networks for collective benefit.
Volunteering
Could you come in to speak to students about your profession? Whether it be for an hour one-lunch time as part of our academic society events or for our annual Jobs and Careers Fair. The 2020 event will be held on Friday 7th February from 9am-12pm.
School Events
The school holds a range of events throughout the year which showcases the amazing talents of our students. You are welcome to join us whether it’s to attend a classical music concert or the school’s jazz band, Funky Bishops or one of our drama or arts productions as well as our OV Sports Day covering rugby, netball, hockey, cross-country, squash, cricket, tennis and rowing.
Students are actively involved in raising funds for House-adopted charities and other activities for good causes. Our Charity Interns are leading the way in their interpretations of philanthropy and social responsibility and devising their own innovative fund-raising activities. Each of the school's six houses have a charity that they support. You can help your old house raise money by registering the cause below with online shopping company Easyfundraising via one of the following links:

Leaving something behind you for the benefit of future generations will show the gratitude for the benefits you have received from the school. It also maintains the historic and prestigious nature of the school, where Old Veseyans come together to support the new.
Your legacy will help support greater accessibility to beyond the classroom experiences and learning. Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School is renowned for the many opportunities on offer for the current Veseyans – including sporting tours, foreign exchanges, and educational excursions and these opportunities are just a handful of those provided outside of school hours. These allow the students to create fond memories, build lasting relationships and grow into confident, articulate and valuable members of society.
Generous giving will enable the school to not only keep providing the vast array of opportunities to current Veseyans, but also help improve the school for future generations. It will help with the upkeep of the beautiful and historic campus and will uphold and enhance our high standards, which have accelerated in recent times.
A financial benefit of leaving a legacy to Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School is the reduction of the value of the giver’s estate. If the value of your estate is less than £325,000 (as of October 2018), then your estate is exempt from Inheritance Tax.
You can also cut the Inheritance Tax rate on the rest of your estate from 40% to 36%, if you leave at least 10% of your ‘net estate’ to a charity. Your net estate is the difference between the value of your estate minus the £325,000 tax threshold.
