In a gruelling schedule and cold and wet conditions, the squad had to play six tough group games, a semi-final and final. They got off to an excellent start with victories over Bromsgrove School (10-8) and Tudor Grange (15-5). Two further victories followed, including an 18-8 victory over King Edwards Lichfield before they suffered defeat to Wrekin College in their fifth game. This meant that Vesey had to secure victory in their final group game against Hereford Cathedral in order to go through to the semi-finals as the best runner-up. Fortunately, Vesey were able to come out on top and qualified for the semi-finals where they met the winners of the other group, George Salter Academy.
Vesey were able to win this tense affair, and set up a rematch with Wrekin College who had beaten them earlier in the day, and who are in fact coached by Miss Laura Jones, a former BVGS member of staff.
Vesey were able to complete a 13-9 victory, with both finalists also qualifying for the National finals. This is the second consecutive year that the squad have become Regional champions, and the third year running that we have qualified for the National finals.
A fantastic achievement by all involved!
