Remembering OV |
After a very short stint in the banking sector (he hated it!) Jim served in the Merchant Navy for several years but eventually joined the RAF as an officer cadet and acquired the rank of Wing Commander by the time he reached retirement. During his retirement - mainly in Cornwall, he took up many pursuits which included sailing, picture framing, archery, horse riding, fishing, classic cars, banjo playing, clock collection, and bell ringing. He also wrote a book on the technicalities of boat moorings which became an often quoted resource in disputes between boat owners and insurers. He saw service in the Falklands and was awarded and OBE in 1990 for his contribution to the introduction of the Tucano jet aircraft. He was the senior engineer at RAF Leconfield, the former home of the Red Arrows. He is survived by his wife Gilly, son Chris and will be sorely missed by all. Brian Izzard (class of '60)
