Time Capsule of 2000

We ask Kris Williams (OV2003) about the time capsule he buried near the school canteen in 2000.

So what was the idea behind the time capsule?

Kris: In 2000 there was a competition ran in conjunction with Sutton Porsche Evans Halshaw to design a concept car for the year 2020.

Who ran the competition?

Kris: The DT teacher who ran ran it at the time had blonde hair but her name escapes me.

Jonathan: It would have been Dawn Walker who was HOD at the time.  I’ve got extremely vague memories of us burying it and the area shown does ring a bell.  Pretty sure It was a length of plastic drain pipe we used.

Did you win the competition?

Kris: I won the competition and we buried the drawing in a grey pipe (made by John who managed the DT workshop) in the grounds roughly somewhere in the red area - I cannot remember if we marked the soil in anyway but it would have been a good idea! With the drawing there were various school artefacts - prospectus tie etc.

When were you planning on digging up the time capsule?

Kris: The idea was to dig it up in 2020 so you still have some time yet but happy to provide more info as and when required - I think my dad has a newspaper cutting somewhere so I will see if I can dig it out!
