Honeybourne worked closely with Nick Clewer, Align Architecture.  The scope of work was for the provision of a low cost, highly sustainable outbuilding on a constrained site to meet the needs of a busy inner-city school. The proposals to provide a child safe learning facility and provide much needed additional learning space to the infant academy.

The project relied on a new build structural timber panel system to provide an ecologically friendly and energy efficient building.

Honeybourne erected a 12 x 6 m timber framed extension to existing timber framed, former SSO bungalow.

Also carrying out extensive renovation and adaptions inside the former SSO Bungalow creating/renovating:

  • A larger unisex bathroom for the infants complete, with low level wash trough and soft touch taps and four cubicles
  • A fully DDA compliant washroom for adults
  • An office space
  • Access corridor

New drainage, installed LED lighting and water saving technologies in the bathrooms.

The project team were able to explore ways to allow the ground works to be accommodated during the school’s holiday period and with temporary works for containment for the construction process during term time.

The end result is a bright, airy and spacious classroom building which is a major benefit for teachers and children.  An amazing learning environment.

The new extension exceeds all current environmental and energy conservation objectives
