Diversity and inclusion are two values that Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School holds very closely to its heart. We are committed to being supportive of different groups of individuals, including people of different races, ethnicities, religions, abilities, genders, and sexual orientations. Over the years, we have seen our student body grow in its diversity, making maintaining an open and inclusive community even more important.

This academic year alone, we have joyously celebrated Black History Month, Diwali, Christmas, Chinese New Year, and most recently, LGBTQ+ History Month. During Diwali week, we were fortunate to have the Sutton Coldfield Hindu Association contribute by decorating our main school corridor, while our Indian pupils organised engaging activities such as a Cricket Carnival, Indian Karaoke, a Diwali Quiz as well as a Samosa Sale. Christmas was traditionally festive with school-wide decorations, concerts, a Carol Service and a Christmas Fayre led by our pupils. For Chinese New Year, our Mandarin teachers took pupils to Chinatown in London and held a treasure hunt alongside traditional food tasting lessons.

These celebrations are more than just a show of cultural appreciation; they are a testament to our dedication to creating an inclusive environment where every member of our faculty feels seen, heard, valued and respected. They serve as a platform for recognizing the diverse contributions of our community and fostering mutual learning.

Our parents, staff, and pupils have all enthusiastically welcomed and participated in these celebrations, and we invite our esteemed alumni to join us too. Whether you can contribute your time, resources, or expertise to the school, or if you have ideas on how we can enhance our inclusivity efforts, we welcome your involvement. We're particularly excited about our upcoming Community Iftar during Ramadan and look forward to planning our Easter and Vaisakhi celebrations soon.

If you're interested in supporting any of our future inclusion events, please contact us at inspiration@bishopveseys.bham.sch.uk. And if you would like to attend any of these events, keep an eye out for updates on our Alumni Events page, our social media channels, and your monthly OV Newsletter.
