Who would have believed that Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School saved the day at my recent wedding .
The wedding was booked at Birmingham Register Office for 18th August. Selina and I who both have grown up families from previous marriages decided to tie the knot having known each other for twelve years after she came to this country from Zimbabwe.
Not expecting to have a big affair we had not booked for a reception prior to booking the wedding ceremony. Not surprisingly we drew a blank when it came to finding a free venue added to that many more guest were added to the list (or added themselves in true Zim fashion).
Thanks to Google I found to my surprise that a company called School Lettings Solutions let out rooms at schools including BVGS during the summer holidays for special events which include wedding receptions . We had the choice of Main Hall, Old Big School or Dining Hall. All were available on the day in question ! We chose the Dining Hall which was ideal for the 80 or so guests. So ‘our prayers were answered’.
It was even more special because among the guests were my brother Jonathan (1954 – 1961) and my son Daniel (1988 – 1994). The SLS staff were very supportive and everything went off amazingly.
Who would have thought as I sat in the terrapin near the Lichfield Road in Class 1C, my wife and I would be celebrating our wedding just a few yards away !
Best wishes to all readers
