Last month, Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School hosted its first ever Giving Day - a 36-hour celebration of community, generosity, and Veseyan spirit. The aim: to raise vital funds for our new Learning Resource Centre, a much-needed space to support our growing school with modern, flexible facilities. The result: a joyous, school-wide effort filled with unforgettable moments and incredible alumni support.
We kicked off the festivities with a record-breaking conga around the school field, featuring every single student and member of staff, all donning colourful party hats. From there, the energy didn’t stop: students gleefully gunged their teachers and watched staff sumo wrestle, thanks to events organised by our Captains and Officer Teams, with former School Captain Adi Muthukumar even returning to take part.
At the end of Day One, we held a Form Showcase Challenge, where each form took on a unique sponsored activity - with the winning group earning the honour of having a room in the new building named after them.
Throughout both days, alumni were at the heart of the fundraising. Brian Davies supported hockey on the Astro, while YouTuber Luke Nuttall led football sessions. Promotional support came from notable OVs such as Lord Peter Ricketts, Lucy Parize, and Krishan Patel, whose encouragement helped build momentum from day one. We were also delighted to welcome back Karim Almourad, Chris Hill, Mohit Gangotra, and Harry Hubbleday, who lent their support throughout the events.
The two days culminated in a vibrant Vesey’s Got Talent show, where acts ranged from Bollywood dancing to live bands. Crowd favourites VK Dhol Blasters took home the win, and with it, naming rights to another room in the new centre. The evening also featured a special auction, with prizes donated by alumni, including Manchester United goalkeeper Dermot Mee, who generously contributed match tickets and a signed shirt.
Giving Day was more than just a fundraiser. It was a powerful reminder of the Veseyan network in action. We’re so grateful to everyone who gave, cheered us on, or came back to join in. The door is always open, and we can’t wait to welcome even more alumni back into the fold.
