Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School are celebrating their first set of GCSE results under the new and much tougher national examination system. There have been some exceptional student performances with eight students attaining straight top grades: Leo Karski (eight A*s plus two 9s and an 8, as well as an A in FMSQ Additional Mathematics), Harry Ayto (seven A*s plus three 9s and an A in FMSQ Additional Mathematics), Shoaib Sheraz (seven A*s plus three 9s and an A in FMSQ Additional Mathematics), Zachary Farmer (seven A*s plus two 8s and one 9), Yannis Lakhani da Silva (seven A*s plus three 8s), Ali Lakhanpal (seven A*s plus two 9s, an 8 and an A), Archie Sansome (seven A*s plus two 9s, an 8 and an A as well as an A in FMSQ Additional Mathematics), Rakeem Uddin (seven A*s plus three 8s). Additionally, a further four students attained nine top GCSE grades: Angus Carter (six A*s plus three 9s and an A), Robin Maes-Prior (six A*s, two 9s, one 8 and an A), Jai Walia (six A*s plus three 9s and a B), Neddy Tsoi (six A*s plus two 9s, an 8 and two As, as well as an A in FSMQ Additional Mathematics).

Furthermore, six students attained eight top grades: Alasdair Bell (five A*s plus two 9s, an 8 and two As), Guvraj Dhillon (six A*s, two 8s and an A), Andrew Dicken-Smith (five A*s, one 9, two 8s and an A), Hamad Khan (five A*s, three 9s, two As), Ben Thompson (six A*s, one 9, an 8, two As as well as an A in FMSQ in Additional Mathematics), Oliver Tedstone (six A*s, two 9s and a 7 as well as an A in FMSQ Additional Mathematics). Well done also to Dan Baker, Tom Froggatt, Mohammed Hashim, Chester Powell, Diran Suraj with grade 9s in English Language and English Literature. Chester also attained a top grade 9 in Mathematics, and along with Louis Hanlan, Leo Karski, Robin Maes-Prior, Archie Sansome, Ben Thompson and Oliver Webb scored 100% in GCSE Biology.

Dominic Robson, Headteacher, was delighted: “Staff and students have worked very hard to adapt to the new tougher GCSEs. They have done themselves proud. A fantastic 72% of all the grades in the new English Language and Mathematics were awarded a grade 7 or better with just under 20% of those grades at 9 and 44% at 8 or better. Overall, a very pleasing 68% of grades have been awarded at A, A*, 7, 8 or 9. I am also particularly pleased that the School has kept a strong sense of balance and community with many of our students also very engaged with the extra-curricular life of the school over the last five years, excelling in sport, music and drama, debating, representing BVGS in academic competitions, and being fantastic ambassadors for their school and country on school trips here at home and abroad, as well as producing outstanding examination results. We are very proud of all of them.''
