Overtime, membership has been as high as 1,500 to where it lies currently at c.800, out of a potential of c.5,000. both in the United Kingdom and Overseas. Clearly there is opportunity for further growth.
The Association holds an Annual Dinner at the School in the autumn and organises an Annual Sports Reunion in the Summer where the traditional School v Old Boys Cricket Match takes place alongside hockey, tennis, netball and rowing.
In addition, it publishes a twice yearly magazine, The Old Veseyan News, which members receive by post in June and just prior to Christmas. The magazine contains reports of events at school, articles of interest to readers and letters from correspondents together with feature articles about prominent Old Veseyans and obituaries.
The recent advent of the Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School Alumni Network provides a platform to enhance the ability to renew those Old Friendships and find out what is going on at the School. All Veseyans whether or not they are members of the Association are encouraged to join.
For those Old Veseyans who have already joined we wish to encourage them to register  with the “OVA Club” on the Alumni Platform. Old Veseyans who are not members of the Association are not eligible to join the OVA Club on the Alumni Platform.
The Old Veseyan Association needs funds to carry out its’ mantra of supporting the Welfare of the School. It does this through grants to the School for various projects from time to time and by offering bursaries to recent former students to assist them in the costs of worthwhile schemes that benefit less fortunate areas of mankind and their own development. In recent years the Association has contributed to the new piano in Big School, some of the updates to the Honours Boards and the new electronic scoreboard for the cricket ground. We have assisted former students to travel to Tanzania, Peru and India to teach and assist in projects that benefit the local education services. We currently are considering applications from five current and past students for 2017.
The Association is run by a group of volunteers who form the committee under the guidance of a Chairman. The current Chairman is Paul Wallis. It is true to say that some key members of the committee are of a more mature age and the Association would benefit from some new blood. We would be delighted to hear from any Old Veseyan who feels they could assist.
The Association raises the funds for these activities through a members’ subscription of a minimum of £8.50 per annum in return for which the member receives the Old Veseyan News Magazine twice each year. Application for membership together with the requisite standing order form, can be found on the School website www.bvgs.co.uk under the Alumni tab.
The Association seeks new members wherever they are domiciled to continue the exercising of its’ mantra to the benefit of its’ members and the school.
Your Association Needs You!
