Alumni and chamber members offer careers guidance to Bishop Vesey’s students

Students at Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School (BVGS) and Sixth Form contemplated life after education, researching potential career paths at the school’s Careers and Jobs Fair.

Aimed at students from years 11-13, but open to pupils of all ages, the fair gave students the chance to meet representatives from key organisations, and discuss future career opportunities, while gaining important industry insights.

With some 52 well-known businesses located at different stands within the school’s sports hall, students took the opportunity to discuss potential job roles and gain a better understanding of how to pursue certain career paths after finishing school and college.

There were also a number of seminars held by companies in the school’s Old Big School building, featuring guest appearances from Old Veseyans and members of the Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce (GBCC).

Included in these seminars was the Chamber Patrons Deutsche Bank Pandemonium Experience, that was run by Managing Director, Paul Anderson, and two of his staff who were both ex-pupils of the school.

These seminars allowed students to gain a more detailed understanding of the various industries and roles available, while discussing job requirements and the benefits of working for a certain company.

There were many other GBCC members also involved throughout the day, including WorkPR, Ark Media Video Production, Bell Lax Solicitors, Crowe Clark Whitehill LLP, Interserve Consulting, Irwin Studio and Anson’s Solicitors amongst others.

Brian Davies, BVGS Corporate Partnership Development Director, commented: “As part of our commitment to our students, we want to give them the best possible chance of securing a job in a career or industry they’re passionate about.

“While working all year round to provide students with the education they need to succeed, part of our responsibility as a school is to help them meet potential employers, who can share important insights with them.

“The thought of leaving school or college can be quite daunting for some, especially if they aren’t yet sure what it is they want to do when they leave, so these events can really help people make a decision and find something they enjoy.

“I’m extremely pleased with how the event went, and I’d like to thank all the businesses and GBCC chamber members for throwing their support behind the fair and offering their expertise to students.

“With this Jobs and Careers Fair being such a success, we are looking forward to hosting more similar events in the future.”
