Honeybourne Facilities Group has joined forces with the House of Lords Rugby Team (Commons & Lords RUFC), assisting them with sponsorship and business opportunities.

Like Honeybourne, the Commons & Lords do a vast amount of work for children’s charities, showing children how sport can be fun and the benefits you can achieve from taking part in sporting activities.

Honeybourne work extensively within the Education sector and try to give something back to the schools, that can be a fun activity but also at the same time be educational.  They have recently undertaken Rugby coaching at a number of schools which is being received with a huge amount of enthusiasm by the children.

Honeybourne was keen to expand on the relationship with the House of Lords and therefore decided to host a rugby match against the Lords and local team Veseyans Vets.

The match took place on Sunday 3rd September and can only be described as a memorable family day.  It was a busy morning with the Veseyans Minis and Juniors starting back for the new season, rain threatened but nothing could dampen the spirits of the players and supporters.  Kick off was 12pm and the support and camaraderie was amazing, not only from Honeybourne and the Veseyans but also the Lords who had travelled from all over the country.  Andrew Mitchell MP spoke to both teams offering words of advice (having been a former rugby player) and then retreated to safety behind the barrier.

The whistle was blown and the game commenced.  Both sides threw themselves into the mission at hand and with their wealth of rugby experience it was an interesting first half!  The second half saw the Lords come back fighting but the winners of the inaugural event named The Honeybourne Cup, went to the Veseyans.

After the match all the players and guests enjoyed a sit down dinner, speeches and awards.  Andrew Mitchell presented The Honeybourne Cup to the Veseyans.

Doug Hunt, Managing Director of Honeybourne Facilities commented “We are pleased to be working with the House of Lords and delighted they took up the rugby challenge, it was a fantastic day enjoyed by all and look forward to supporting future events”
