Rowing

Since rowing became an established sport at Bishop Vesey's, in 2010, it has gone from strength to strength. Most of us in this group will be familiar with these developments, as we were an integral part of them. However, some major developments have occurred in the last two years, so this is a brief update on the current setup.

We now have a fleet of racing boats that comprises three 1x, two 2x, two Wintech 4x/- and a Swift Racing 4x/+. The pride of the fleet is certainly the Wintech 4x/- Big Husky, which started life at the London 2012 Olympics, before racing at Henley Royal Regatta with Windsor Boys' School, so it certainly has pedigree. It is now used by the school's top crew.

Our Coaching staff has also grown over the years, from starting with just Brian Davies and Ian Bousfield, we have greatly benefited from the extensive experience of Min Egan. In addition, a number of other members of staff at the school have lent their services to the development of Vesey Rowing. We are also lucky to now have Adam Langton, an ex Oxford Brookes rower working with us as a coach.

A significant development at the school in the last 2 years has been the building of a new Ergo Room on the school site. This has allowed for a step change in how rowing training is carried out, and significant change in performance can already be seen on the water.

Moving forward, the next goal for the club is to obtain another coxed quad, in order to further expand provision for rowing both at the school and in the wider community. Fundraising for this is currently ongoing, and anybody who wishes to support this should contact Ian Bousfield at i.bousfield@bishopveseys.bham.sch.uk

This is just a brief summary of the key developments at the club. Hopefully in the future we will be able to keep you up to date with news from Regattas and Heads.
